Editorial & Medical Review Policy

Last updated: June 2026

Nareseal Atlas is a reference for healthcare professionals, so accuracy and transparency are central to how we work. This page explains how our content is researched, sourced, reviewed, and kept current.

How content is created

Entries are written from authoritative sources — peer-reviewed literature, recognised clinical guidelines (e.g. specialty society and national guidance), standard surgical and otolaryngology textbooks, and, for instruments, manufacturer specifications and device documentation. We aim to represent established clinical consensus and to cite primary sources where a claim depends on them.

Content types and how they're reviewed

We hold different content to different standards, because it serves different purposes:

  • Instrument & terminology entries are descriptive reference content, compiled from manufacturer specifications, device documentation, and standard references. They describe what an instrument is and how it is used; they do not provide individualised clinical guidance.
  • Condition & procedure articles address clinical topics. These are written from authoritative medical sources and are reviewed by a licensed clinician before they carry a "Medically reviewed by" attribution naming the reviewer and the date. Where an article has not yet completed clinical review, it is labelled as such or withheld from publication.

A note on terminology

Instrument and procedure nomenclature in medicine genuinely varies — by region, by surgical tradition, and by manufacturer. The same instrument may carry different names, and the same name may describe slightly different tools. We follow common clinical usage and, where helpful, note alternative names. Terminology on the Atlas may therefore differ from the convention used in your own region or institution.

Independence and disclosure

Nareseal Atlas is published by Nareseal, the team behind Netcare Instruments. The reference content is written to be accurate and useful independent of any commercial interest. Where an instrument is available from Netcare Instruments, that is disclosed transparently and does not alter the clinical substance of the entry.

Updates and corrections

Clinical knowledge changes, and so does this reference. Reviewed content is re-checked periodically, and review dates are shown where applicable. If you believe something is inaccurate, outdated, or unclear, please tell us via our contact page — we review and act on corrections.
