Tympanoplasty encompasses all surgical procedures aimed at restoring the integrity of the tympanic membrane and, where required, reconstructing the ossicular chain. The term covers a spectrum from a simple drum repair (myringoplasty) to complex middle-ear reconstruction involving the ossicular chain and mastoid.
